Shabbat Lekh-Lekha 5782

At the end of last week’s Torah reading, we met Avram and Sarai. This week, in Parshat Lekh-Lekha, they become the focus of the narrative. God promises that they will be the parents of a great nation. The only problem is that they are infertile. Still, God reinforces the promise, and it will take another week to find out how it will be fulfilled. There’s so much drama in the narratives of the founding fathers and mothers of our People; and you can bet there’s music to accompany the drama. Read the parshah, listen to the music, and tell me the connection between the two!

We will uncover the significance of these songs after Shabbat minhah, which begins at 5:50 PM.

From Sgt. Pepper

Solo John

George and his Delaware Destroyers

Immaculate Madonna

He’s from Toronto but I’ll get over it

Amazing cut from the Black Crowes

Burton, Randy, and friends

On another note, I can’t let this Torah portion pass without remembering Debbie Friedman’s classic. Make sure to make yourself into a blessing in her memory!

Wishing you a Shabbat Shalom and happy listening,

Rabbi David Wise
