Shalom. With the holidays behind us, we are looking forward to another year of exciting events. Our energetic group of women supports the local, national, and international Jewish community and the community at large. Your membership makes a difference, even if only financial. There are also many opportunities for greater involvement as “Sisters in the Hood.” Teamwork is the best approach to success, and we invite all of you to join us at planning meetings and general events.
We are looking forward to seeing you at our kick-off event on October 18 at 10 AM. This paid up membership brunch will feature Lois Brafman, nurse practitioner, who will be discussing staying healthy through the life cycles. Lois is a very knowledgeable and wonderful speaker. If you have any particular concerns that you would like addressed, please email either Marilyn at or Beth at .
Our Torah Fund Brunch will take place on Sunday, November 8th at 10 AM. The Torah Fund Honoree for this year will be our past president, Audrey Shepherd. As we all know, Audrey served as Sisterhood Co-President for at least 2 consecutive terms and worked tirelessly to help us achieve our goals. The Torah Fund is an integral part of Sisterhood and the National Women’s League of Conservative Judaism, allowing us a direct avenue to support Conservative Judaism and the Jewish Theological Seminary. We are looking forward to Sisterhood members stepping up and supporting this function. Our newly revitalized gift shop will be open after the meetings on October 18th and November 8th.
For our first winter event we plan to have an exciting speaker talking to us about “Brushing Up Your Communications Skills.” The date and time will be announced. Sisterhood Shabbat will take place on March 5th. Each year members take part and lead the service in any way they can. It has been very fulfilling watching our members increase or change their roles each year. Rabbi Wise will provide lots of instruction in Torah and Haftorah readings, while Cantor Zim will assist those who want to participate in any other part of the service. Please volunteer for something with which you feel comfortable, or volunteer for something that is uncomfortable for you, and we will help you become comfortable. We are looking forward to a beautiful service presented by members of the Sisterhood.
Volunteers are welcomed to help put together our Shalach Manot (Purim Project Assembly) on Sunday, March 20th for distribution to our congregation on Purim. Maris Blechner will once again chair this event. We will continue our tradition of the Women’s Seder on Sunday, April 18th, chaired by Esther Beckoff. For our early winter meeting on a date to be arranged, we are looking forward to having a motivational speaker. Bring your sweet tooth to our chocolate party on Wednesday, May 18th. Our final event will be held on Wednesday, June 15th. This will be a Sisterhood evening of nostalgia, our own “show and tell.”
We look forward to seeing you all at these events.
